Whole Wheat Soft Pretzels
Hey everyone! I made the whole wheat soft pretzels as an appetizer yesterday and I wanted to share. They tasted just like pretzels you would order from a restaurant, but a lot healthier. I particularly enjoyed it with honey mustard. These yield 4 small pretzels (or in my case, 3 and 6 little nuggets) and take around 25 minutes to make.
1 cup plain, thick greek yogurt
1 cup whole wheat flour
2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt before mixing with the yogurt)
Optional: one whisked egg white and sea salt
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
Combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. Add the yogurt and mix until dough forms into a ball.
Lightly flour a cutting board and knead the dough for 30 seconds.
Make the dough into pretzel shapes, and place them on the baking sheet.
OPTIONAL: Brush the beaten egg on the top of the pretzels, and sprinkle some sea salt on it.
Bake for 20 minutes. When done, the bagels should be lightly browned.
Increase the oven to 450 degrees F and bake for another 4-5 minutes or until the bagels are golden.
